What Do You Know About Fair Trade?

October is Fair Trade Awareness Month and at McKinney Mommas, we're happy to bring light to this important movement.

What is Fair Trade?

Fair trade is an organized movement, whose goal is to help workers and producers in developing countries to make better trading conditions and promote sustainability in their communities and economy.

A product that is Fair Trade Certified typically means that a higher price was paid to the workers and exporters, to improve the social and environmental wellbeing in the region that the products came from.

Historically, developed countries may have taken advantage of developing countries exports, as their only choice was to sell for a low, often unfair price to the import companies from more developed countries.

Primarily, Fair Trade focuses on improving conditions of the people who export from developing countries to developed countries, and often includes items like sugar, tea, bananas, honey, wine, coffee and more!
