Do's and Don'ts of Valentines - Guest Post

Valentines Day is quickly approaching and love is in the air! It’s time to get your plans ready to go. Unfortunately, many people overlook Valentines Day and try to get through the holiday without going into a deep depression. Others simply forget to plan or blow off their significant other all together. So, here’s a list of dos and don’ts for the single and spoken for:

Do Celebrate Valentines, Regardless of the Seriousness

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been in a relationship for a week or a year, you must celebrate Valentines Day. No exceptions. There’s not a level you get to in a relationship that makes this day unimportant. From its very beginning, you must celebrate. Single, dating, relationship, engaged and married alike must find a place of romance and start celebrating - check out a post at USA Weekend on all the ways you can do this here.

Don’t Try to Talk Your Way Out of It

No one wants to hear about how you think this is a consumerist holiday built to feed on the weak minded. You understand? Nobody cares. Don’t get on some self-righteous kick and think you can talk your way out of buying flowers for your lady. It won’t work, so don’t try it.

Do Makes Plans Well In Advance

If you do try it, you’ll probably be left in line with the other people that failed to get flowers before February 14th. Don’t do that. Instead, make plans for the entire day well in advance. Orchestrate everything from the morning breakfast in bed to the goodnight kiss. Plan it all.

Don’t Get a Practical Gift

This is not the time to get those diet pills, self-help book or thigh master she’s been raving about for months. In fact, those were Christmas hints, not Valentines Day. Chances are, you won’t get hints for Valentines Day. Why? Because she wants romance not practicality.

Do Lean in for the Kiss at the End of the Night

Aside from midnight on New Year’s in Times Square, this is probably the best chance you’ll get to get a kiss. So lean in and get to it! This goes for the single and the taken Valentine celebrators. Everyone should get a kiss on Valentines Day.

Don’t Wallow in Your Self-Pity

So, don’t just sit inside your apartment with ice cream, pizza and a slew of romantic comedies. If you’re single on Valentines get out on the town and start mingling. There are plenty of other single people on Valentines, so go celebrate with them. Kick it up a notch, order some Creations By Leslie invitations and bravely throw your own Valentines party. Who cares if you’re not tied down? Celebrate that! Don’t mourn it.

You can have a great Valentines Day. The young, old, rich, poor, single or taken; love does not discriminate.
