Giving Street Kids A Safe Place To Play

You may not see them in your daily life, but they're out there.

Who?

Orphans and at risk youth that have no where safe to spend their days. They're here, they're abroad, and they all need a positive place to keep them away from the dangers of the streets.

Now, there are a handful of programs in the US to attempt to care for the needs of at risk youth, in fact I used to work for one here in Texas.  However, it's still rare to find that kind of help in places like Zambia.

Save the Children in Lusaka (capital of Zambia) has stepped up to the plate and created a Sport in Action program at the Fountain of Hope.

"Sport In Action (SIA) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) whose purpose is to improve people’s quality of life through sport and recreational activities. Founded in 1998, SIA was the first Zambian sports NGO."

Sport in Action is providing "street kids" in Lusaka with the opportunity to get off the streets and participate in activities that will encourage self development, motivation and confidence.  Plus, they all have access to the library, daily meals, and sports programs.

Some of the participants are allowed to actually reside at the Fountain of Hope for 6 months, while they are encouraged by staff to attend school and learn increased self sufficiency skills.

Here's a little clip of Sports In Action:
