"Get Your Bump On" at Medical City Children's Hospital

Where you want to have your baby is something you either think about as soon as you find out you're pregnant, or maybe already had  in mind, you just needed a positive pregnancy test to get things started. Either way, it's a big decision to make and I have to be honest with you, the hospitals in Dallas make it really hard to decide.

I delivered at a hospital just outside of Dallas and I loved my experience. Thinking all hospitals were the same, I changed my doctor and delivered my second child at a different hospital. I loved my birth but I didn't really enjoy my short stay after. That just showed me that, in fact, all hospitals are not the same.

That's why, when I was asked to attend an event at Medical City Children's hospital, to learn more about their labor and delivery, I jumped at the chance. I love childbirth and I'm amazed at the options available for women. Every hospital really is different and Medical City Children's is definitely among the elite in DFW! I couldn't wait to check it out.

The evening included samples from the amazing celebration meal that is offered to all new moms and one guest during their stay at the hospital.

I'm always interested in the food at hospitals because I feel like what they are offering is only getting better and better. Medical City definitely does not disappoint!

The Celebration Meal includes the option of Roquefort Pear Salad or Portabella Spinach Salad for starters.

The guests can choose from Pesto Salmon Salad, Crab Tetrazzini with Shrimp, Truffle Seared Airline Chicken Breast, or New York Strip Steak with Fingerling Potatoes. Yum, right?!?!

Let's not forget dessert! New moms have the choice between Pineapple Coconut Torte or Chocolate Bombe.

Wow! I'm already sold!

If that wasn't enough, we were given a tour of the NICU and Labor and Delivery.

I never needed the NICU for my babies, but for those who do, it should be a comfort to know that Medical City has one of the only Level 4 NICUs in Dallas. If you were to deliver at a hospital without this type of NICU but your baby needed to be in a Level 4 NICU, you would remain in your hospital to recover while your baby is transferred. I can't even imagine having to let my baby go to another hospital while I stayed to recover.

My favorite parts of the NICU were all of the amenities to make parents more comfortable. I saw a breastpump next to each baby's bedside and even a room used specifically for pumping. In addition, there was a room that can be used for moms to spend the night. They want those parents to be as comfortable as possible while they are there, and that was obvious.

One of the nurses who guided our tour of Labor and Delivery was in her third trimester of pregnancy and told us how much she was looking forward to delivering her own baby there. That, in itself, says a lot.

Should you be looking for a hospital to deliver your next baby, or maybe even the baby you're carrying now, Medical City Children's Hospital is top notch and a place I'd be proud to be at to bring my own baby in to the world.
