I'm happy to be the kind of momma that thinks it's okay to paint on your hands and toes when you're finished with your "masterpiece" on paper.
That being said, I recently stumbled across Mimi the Sardine, a San Francisco based company, since 1989, that has an exciting line of spill-resistant textile products for kids and for your home.
Over Christmas, my husband bought "Big Sister H." an art easel. Despite my easy going nature, when it comes to art messes, I figured H. needed an art smock of sorts. I was happy to find Mimi the Sardine's Kids Apron, in five cool designs for both boys and girls.
What's cool about these aprons, are that they're made from organic cotton, coated in acrylic, so you can easily wipe them off or even throw them in the washing machine. Plus, they're PVC free so the coating is non-toxic as well.
My peanut got to her artwork right away. Now, this apron is made for ages 2-6 years old, so it's a "grow with you" item. In my book, that means less money out of my pocket in the long run, which is a good thing!
You can easily adjust for height, by knotting the neck strap or wrapping the waist strap around the front (like we did). My little one is not yet 2, so it's still a little large on her.
She doesn't seem to mind.
Some of the other items we think are cool at Mimi the Sardine are:
I'm totally into the bright colors and patterns that each of these items are available in. I wouldn't even mind wearing a kitchen apron in one of these cool Swedish prints.
After a few uses now, I can see these kid aprons (American made from European textiles) are going to last through my little one's Picasso phase, Matisse phase, and even her Pollock phase! Super durable and easy on and off are two features that sold me.
"You had me at Mimi."
